Hey there everybody! Just here with a few DGMS Club and Shop updates……

DGMS SHOP IS OPEN !!!

We have done so much work making the Shop safe for all qualified members to come in and get out of the house!

Our shop Supervisor Lynn has made a couple videos to share with you what COVID precautions we’ve have taken to make it as safe and comfortable as possible!


This is the new Rock Shop Sign-Up for July and August.

McKinney Trade Days Field Trip July 19th

Join our next DGMS Field-trip this Saturday, Meet at the Main Entrance at 11:00. It’s located at 4550 W University Dr. in McKinney. No sign up is required. If you plan to attend you will need to visit the website https://thirdmondaytradedays.com/ so you can follow any COVID mandates required by the city of McKinney.

There are quite a few Rock & Mineral Dealers there!

Breaking DGMS News!

GREAT NEWS EVERYBODY…. 

As of now, DGMS has tentative plans to reopen the Shop on a limited basis to current, qualified DGMS Members.

Pending any new Dallas County recommendations, we plan to open the Shop on Monday evening, June 1 with the following rules:

  • Signup in advance is highly recommended
  • Everyone will be required to wear a mask and gloves
  • We will have a maximum of 3 people at the Shop, plus Shop Supervisor
  • We are recommending 2-hour timeslots (M, TH 5-7pm & 7-9pm, SAT 8-10am & 10-12) and possibly assigned seating
  • Shop Supervisors will need to clean (wipe down) the shop at the end of each shift
  • People who have signed up will get precedence over those who just show up, so please use the form or call Lynn for a timeslot.
  • Everyone using the Shop must sign an Accident Waiver and Release of Liability Form. This will also be available at the Shop.

**Please only sign up for one slot per day, no more than two slots per week. This gives everybody a chance to come in at least twice a week, especially on some of our more popular days. Of course, if no one signs up for the 2nd session and you wish to stay, that will be allowed.

MORE GREAT NEWS EVERYBODY….

We are planning to have the Rock Swap on Saturday, Jun 27 (note date change).

  • We will require all Vendors to wear a mask and gloves and, preferably, have had sanitizer available.
  • We will ask that all Shoppers wear a mask and ask Vendors not to sell to anyone that is not wearing one.
  • We apologize for the inconvenience, but due to the age of the majority of our members, vendors, and shoppers, there will be no exceptions to the mask and gloves rules. Please consider the well-being of everyone when attending this event.

Of course, if any of this changes, we will send out another notice. But you can always check out our Web page or Facebook for more up to date information!

Oh Man, our shop is looking FANTASTIC!

Thanks to Norm, Joy, and the DGMS Army of Volunteers our shop is getting a much needed cleanup and makeover! They have been working long and hard to clean up and fix the machines, which is awesome because the shop is as busy as ever!

If you aren’t familiar with the Dallas Gem and Mineral Society’s workshop, we’d like to share what we have to offer. As a paid member (that has completed the Qualifying Class) you have access to all of the machines PLUS the communal knowledge of the crew that is always hanging around the shop. Gotta question, just ask, we are always willing to talk your ear off about rocks!!

And the newest addition to the Shop is this fancy new Keurig Machine!!!
Soda is available too! And don’t forget to leave a donation so we can keep the kitchen stocked with all your beverage needs!

As much as the DGMS Army has already gotten done, we are always looking to improve and maintain… with that said…. (so exciting)….

The shop will be replacing some of the 12 inch saws with new ones!!! 
To fund this big expense the club will auction 3 nice specimens at the monthly meetings. Proceeds from our June 1st Rock Swap will also go towards the cost of the saws. Donations are always accepted at the shop and the monthly meeting. 
HELP US HELP YOU!

So be sure to stop by the meeting which is next Tuesday, May 21st! A presentation on the New Geology Timeline will be given by Diane Brownly.  As always, bring a dish to share if you can.
